Ghost In The Source (CTF)

Ghost In The Source (CTF)

Reading time: 2 minutes

As a thank you to the community and listeners of my podcast, I thought I’d offer something that’s a bit of fun, and will sharpen your hacking skills, should you be willing to accept the challenge!

On June 21st, 2025, the capture-the-flag (CTF) will go live! See the CTF page for details.

For 3 correct submissions, which will be chosen at random at the end of June, I’ll be gifting a 6-month subscription to TryHackMe. This is NOT affiliated with TryHackMe in any way. I’m just a fan of the THM platform!

How can you prepare?

  • Start by reviewing this video by John Hammond, it’s a good intro as well as his other videos.
  • Sign-up for a free TryHackMe account, and start learning the basics!

The Rules

What’s In Scope:

  • Cryptographic analysis
  • Password attacks
  • Source code review
  • Using our tools or your own
  • Content harvesting for wordlists

What’s NOT In Scope:

  • NO server attacks
  • NO network or port scanning
  • NO denial of service
  • NO social engineering

What Now?

Just relax, learn the basics, and wait until June 21st. I won’t be picking winners immediately, so take your time. Note: the flag / code for the challenge is not live or anywhere to be found (until June 21st), so use the time on the THM platform if you sign-up for a free account.

In the meantime you can download the wallpaper for it, if you like that kind of thing. If this is popular I’ll consider future challenges, perhaps doing some OSINT!
